Google seems to be getting very close to killing Google Assistant on the Galaxy ecosystem, making way for Gemini. This is a move that has been predicted for a long time, especially when Google started to push this new generation AI assistant on Android and ChromeOS.
Gemini was launched two years ago and initially appeared on newer Galaxy models. Not long after, Google continued to expand to older Galaxy models, including phones, tablets, and smartwatches. However, Google Assistant still exists in parallel. This seems to be coming to an end.
In the latest Google version v16.46.61, users discovered a series of changes related to branding. Items that used to say Google Assistant in the “Hey Google” settings have been completely replaced with Gemini. Even the “Hey Google and Voice Match” item in Gemini settings has been changed to “Talk to Gemini hands-free”.

The information said that Google will completely remove the Google Assistant brand after March 2026. This means that from now until then, all related features will be gradually transferred to Gemini.

For the Galaxy ecosystem, Samsung has replaced Google Assistant with Gemini since the One UI 7.0 update for phones and tablets. It is still unclear what will happen to devices running One UI 6.1.1 or lower and not eligible for One UI 7.0. However, it is likely that they will still be transferred to Gemini through an app update in the near future.
