Samsung expands January 2026 security update to the Galaxy S25 series

Samsung is widening the reach of its first software rollout of the year. Following recent updates for the Galaxy A34, A55, and the latest foldables—the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7—the January 2026 security patch has now landed on the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra.

Reports indicate that the rollout is currently underway in South Korea. For Galaxy S25 Ultra users, the OTA (over-the-air) package weighs in at approximately 536MB and carries a firmware version ending in BYKG. While the other two models in the S25 trio are also receiving the update, build numbers and file sizes may vary slightly by region. Samsung is expected to expand availability to global markets in the coming days.

As expected, this is a maintenance-focused update. It does not introduce new features, which comes as no surprise given that Samsung is currently deep into beta testing for One UI 8.5. That major interface overhaul is slated to debut with the Galaxy S26 lineup before a wider release.

The January 2026 patch addresses 55 security vulnerabilities, covering both core Android system issues and Samsung-specific exposures. Installing this update not only hardens device security but also preps the phone for upcoming major software releases.

Galaxy S25 owners can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. Since this is a phased rollout, users who don't see the prompt immediately should sit tight and check back in a few days.
