Samsung has just released a new software update for the Galaxy Watch 5 series, but this is not the expected One UI 8 Watch version. Instead, this update focuses on improving security and system stability, preparing the foundation for the upcoming major upgrade.
Currently, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are receiving the August 2025 security patch in Korea, with firmware code CYJ1, about 150MB in size. Although it is only a three-month-old patch compared to the October version, this update is considered an important stepping stone before the release of One UI 8 Watch and is expected to expand globally in the near future.
The One UI 8 Watch – based on Wear OS 6 – is expected to launch before the end of 2025. Samsung has already rolled out the update to the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, and has opened a public beta program for the Galaxy Watch 6, with the official release expected in the coming weeks. The Galaxy Watch 5 series is also expected to join the beta program soon in Korea and the US, before launching globally alongside the Watch 4 and Watch FE.
In the meantime, Galaxy Watch 5 users can install the new security update by going to Settings > Watch software update > Download and install or via the Galaxy Wearable app on their phone. Once completed, the watch will automatically reboot to apply the new security patches, helping the device operate more stably while waiting for the official launch of One UI 8 Watch.
