Just days after rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update, Samsung has caught the tech world off guard by dropping the first details of its next major software upgrade: One UI 9.0. Built on the upcoming Android 17 platform, the new operating system doubles down on deep personalization, core app upgrades, and ironclad user privacy and security.
Building on the flexible customization of its predecessor, the Quick Settings panel in One UI 9 now grants users unprecedented control over their layout. Users can actively tweak the size and placement of core elements—such as screen brightness, volume controls, and the media player—to perfectly match their daily habits.
Productivity apps are also getting a welcome boost. Samsung Notes is adding new decorative stickers and varied pen strokes, making it a stronger tool for student note-taking and digital creation. Meanwhile, Creative Studio is now baked directly into the Contacts app, allowing users to quickly whip up personalized profile cards on the fly without bouncing between different applications.
On the security front, One UI 9 erects stricter barriers against sketchy apps. The system will now automatically flag, block the installation of, or halt the launch of high-risk software, actively prompting users to delete them to stay safe. Accessibility is also seeing major refinements, including flexible mouse speed adjustments and a seamlessly unified Google and Samsung TalkBack experience. Additionally, a new "Text Spotlight" feature makes reading effortless by magnifying selected text within a large floating window.
This is merely a sneak peek at what Samsung has in store. The next-generation Galaxy AI tools are slated to debut alongside the company's upcoming premium foldables—expected to be the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8—which will likely hit the stage in July 2026.
