The official rollout of Samsung's One UI 8.5 isn't exactly smooth sailing. Following recent issues with Google app color syncing, a growing number of Galaxy users—primarily those wielding the latest S25 and S24 models—are now reporting a jarring display glitch that causes screen contrast to fluctuate wildly whenever interface elements overlay a playing video.
According to multiple threads on Reddit and Samsung's community forums, this graphical hiccup is triggered when another system task interrupts active video playback. Many users note that their media looks perfectly normal until they adjust the volume or receive a push notification.
The moment the volume slider appears or a notification banner drops down from the top edge, the underlying video's contrast spikes dramatically or washes out into a dull gray. Only when these UI elements fade away do the video's color and brightness return to their normal, balanced state.
While this color-shifting bug doesn't crash the media player or cause the device to randomly shut down, the sudden and constant changes in hue create a highly abrasive viewing experience. The situation is especially aggravating for users who receive a steady stream of messages while trying to enjoy a movie.
Currently, the glitch appears to be localized to the Galaxy S25 and S24 lineups. It is too early to call this a widespread issue, as the number of reports remains relatively small. However, because Samsung is still deploying the One UI 8.5 update in phases across different regions, the volume of affected devices could climb in the coming days.
Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the bug. Since the issue is triggered automatically by core background functions like notifications, users cannot manually disable or fix it without sacrificing basic smartphone features. For now, affected Galaxy owners are forced to grin and bear it, waiting for the company's software engineers to patch the problem in a future update.
