Samsung is developing One UI 8.5 and will likely launch it with the Galaxy S26 series. This is a departure from the previous tradition of releasing x.1 or x.1.1 versions. As the number “.5” suggests, this update promises to bring a series of comprehensively redesigned applications, of which the Phone application is a notable highlight.

The Phone application on One UI 8.5 has been drastically changed in the navigation bar. Instead of three separate tabs, the new interface is combined into a floating pill-shaped bar, with a circle showing the active tab. This design reminds many people of iOS 26. The call icon is also refreshed, synchronized with the icon set that Samsung has refined from One UI 7. Users can clearly see the difference in both light and dark background modes.

In addition, the application's settings page also has a new option called Direct Voicemail. It’s not clear how this feature will work, but it’s likely to be related to voicemail management. Since the source requested to keep the original image private, a re-skinned version of the interface has been shared for illustration purposes.

For now, these are just the initial changes that we know of. The app even crashes after a few seconds of use, suggesting that Samsung is still in the process of finalizing it. However, what has been revealed is enough to show that One UI 8.5 will bring major changes to Samsung’s core design. Users can expect more surprises in the future.
