Despite shifting to a quarterly update schedule, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series has surprisingly received the June 2026 security patch. The rollout is currently underway for carrier-locked versions of the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra in the US under the firmware version GZF3. Unlocked and international variants are expected to receive the upgrade notification in the coming days.

This move caught many users off guard. Under the new quarterly cycle, Samsung's 2022 flagship lineup wasn't scheduled for another software update until August, especially after receiving the May patch and skipping April's. However, rather than introducing new features, this update strictly focuses on routine fixes to patch security vulnerabilities.

Crucially, the absence of new features in this June patch serves as a silent confirmation: the series will not be upgraded to One UI 8.5. While Samsung had initially begun beta testing this interface for the S22 generation, the project was ultimately scrapped. This effectively means the device's major software update lifecycle will conclude with One UI 8.

As the S22 enters its final year of software support—four years after its market debut—maintaining routine security updates remains Samsung's top priority. Nonetheless, industry experts suggest the tech giant may not roll out this June patch globally, as devices in many regions are already adequately protected by last month's update.
