After months of radio silence, Samsung Galaxy users were treated to an unprecedented flurry of three Google Play System updates in just four days.

Between August 2025 and February 2026, most Samsung smartphones were left in the dark without a single Google Play System update. The dry spell finally broke last week when devices started receiving a patch dated January 1, 2026—the first upgrade in over seven months.

But the real surprise came just 24 hours later when Samsung rolled out yet another update. Oddly, after installation, some devices displayed a system date that rolled back to November 1, 2025, leaving the community scratching their heads.

The bizarre streak concluded over the weekend when Samsung pushed a third Google Play System update, capping off a rapid-fire rollout.

Clocking in at a mere 149KB, the final patch is likely a minor tweak targeting background system components. Post-installation, the version dates remain a mixed bag: some devices are stuck on November 1, 2025, while others accurately reflect January 1, 2026.

Galaxy owners can check their current status by navigating to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play system update.

Amidst this platform-patching frenzy, Samsung is also actively testing One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S25 series. The stable version is expected to debut alongside the upcoming Galaxy S26 in the near future.
