Following the release of the One UI 8 Watch update for older Galaxy models, users flooded forums with reports of severe battery drain, UI lag, and erratic sensor behavior. Samsung acknowledged the glitches and promised a fix. Now, the Galaxy Watch 5 is the first to receive this relief, arriving alongside the January 2026 security patch.

The update is currently rolling out to users in Europe. While the official changelog is somewhat vague—citing standard system stability improvements and security fixes—it is widely expected to address the specific post-update bugs that have plagued users recently.

Identified by firmware version DYL6, the update weighs in at approximately 148MB for the Bluetooth model, though file sizes may vary slightly depending on the region and connectivity version.

For now, the January patch remains exclusive to the Watch 5 and hasn't yet hit other wearables, including the newer Watch 8 series. However, given Samsung’s typical staged rollout strategy, other devices will likely see the update land within the coming days.

Early real-world tests are promising. The stuttering issues within Quick Settings and Tiles—major pain points for Watch 5 owners recently—appear to be resolved, resulting in a significantly smoother experience.

To check for the update, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected phone, navigate to Watch Settings > Watch Software Update, and select Download and Install. Samsung recommends ensuring your watch has at least 30% battery life before starting the installation.
