Samsung is accelerating the development of One UI 8, its next major software update based on Android 16. While previous rumors suggested that the beta version would be released as early as next week, new evidence suggests that the South Korean company has already started testing the version on older flagships. A few days ago, the Galaxy S23 appeared on Geekbench with Android 16, and now the Galaxy S22 Ultra has been spotted running the same platform with the new version of One UI.

The Galaxy S22 officially joins the list of devices that are testing One UI 8 and Android 16 from Samsung. While One UI 7 was delayed by nearly 5 months from its original schedule, it seems that Samsung has caught up this time. The One UI 8 beta is expected to be released soon, at least for the Galaxy S25 series in some markets.

The fact that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is running Android 16 also fits in with Google's recent confirmation that the stable version of Android 16 will start rolling out this summer. For Samsung, the stable One UI 8 update will likely be introduced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 at an event in July. Older devices like the Galaxy S22 series will receive the update in the following months, with the entire rollout likely to be completed before the end of 2025.

Notably, this will be the last major Android update for Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra users. These models launched in 2022 with Android 12 (One UI 4) and are committed to receiving four generations of Android upgrades, meaning Android 16 will be the final stop.
