While the tech world is already buzzing about Samsung's internal testing of the Android 17-based One UI 9 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, many Galaxy users are still eagerly awaiting their official One UI 8.5 update. Though not widely released just yet, this current version continues to reveal hidden gems—the latest being a much-needed tool to dramatically improve fingerprint recognition.
In the One UI 8.5 update, Samsung has introduced a new feature simply called "Improve accuracy." This option allows users to rescan an already registered fingerprint to boost the sensor's precision. The mechanism is straightforward: the system prompts you to tap your finger 10 consecutive times to gather additional biometric data. This helps the sensor recognize your print much more effectively during unlocking or security authentication.
This addition is a welcome fix for anyone who has struggled with sluggish sensors, false rejections, or the frustration of needing multiple taps to unlock their phone. By building a more comprehensive fingerprint profile, the unlocking process becomes noticeably faster and more reliable—not just on the lock screen, but also within third-party apps that require biometric logins.
To access this feature, users can navigate to Settings > Security and privacy > Lock screen and biometrics > Fingerprints. From there, simply select a registered fingerprint and tap Improve accuracy to begin the supplementary scan.
Currently, this feature has only been spotted on the stable build of One UI 8.5, which means it is exclusively available on the newly minted Samsung Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra lineup.
However, Samsung is expected to begin expanding One UI 8.5 to other eligible devices in the coming weeks, meaning this handy biometric boost will likely hit a wider range of Galaxy models very soon.
