Samsung has officially kicked off the rollout of the December 2025 security patch for the Galaxy S22 series, with India identified as the first market to receive the update. This latest OTA (over-the-air) release for the 2022 flagship lineup underscores Samsung's continued commitment to maintaining consistent security schedules for its older premium devices.
According to the changelog, the December patch addresses 68 security vulnerabilities, covering both Android CVEs and specific One UI issues. The standard Galaxy S22 is receiving firmware version S901EXXSCGYL1, while the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra are being updated to S906EXXSCGYL1 and S908EXXSCGYL1, respectively. As is typical with monthly maintenance updates, no major new features are introduced; however, users can expect under-the-hood optimizations, improved system stability, and a smoother overall experience.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S22 series is receiving this update ahead of the Galaxy S23 lineup, following earlier rollouts for the Galaxy S25 and S24. This scheduling is notable, as it demonstrates that Samsung is not merely prioritizing its newest models but is actively managing the support lifecycle of devices launched several years ago.
Galaxy S22 owners can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. Once the firmware is available for your specific device, a notification will prompt you to proceed with the download.
On the software front, the Galaxy S22 series is currently running One UI 8 based on Android 16. Samsung has confirmed that One UI 8.5 is slated for release early next year. While the One UI 8.5 Beta program is already underway for newer models, the Galaxy S22 will skip the beta phase and jump directly to the stable version upon its wider release.
launched in early 2022 with a promise of four generations of OS upgrades, the Galaxy S22 trio has now fulfilled that commitment by reaching Android 16. Since One UI 8.5 remains based on Android 16, this upcoming release will likely mark the final significant software overhaul in the Galaxy S22’s support lifecycle.
