Samsung has finally released the long-awaited update for Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic users. The smartwatch lineup, originally launched in 2021, has begun receiving the upgrade to One UI 8 Watch based on Wear OS 6. The initial rollout is currently limited to South Korea, with expansion to global markets expected in the coming days and weeks.

According to reports, the Wi-Fi variant of the Galaxy Watch 4 is receiving firmware version R870XXU1JYK4, while the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (Wi-Fi) is being updated with firmware R880XXU1JYK4. The update represents a significant download, weighing in at over 1GB. As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the availability for LTE models.

Users in South Korea can manually check for the update by opening the Galaxy Wearable app on their paired Android phone and navigating to Watch Settings > Watch Software Update > Download and Install. Once downloaded, selecting "Install" will initiate the upgrade process, after which the watch will automatically restart. Samsung advises ensuring the device has at least 50% battery life before proceeding.

The Galaxy Watch 4 series marked a pivotal moment for Samsung as the first models to utilize the Wear OS platform. Debuting in mid-2021 (reportedly with One UI 5 Watch based on Wear OS 4), these devices have since received four major software updates, culminating in the latest Wear OS 6 release.

  • Advanced Double Pinch Gestures: Expanded controls for easier navigation.

  • Visual Refinements: New charging animations and a redesigned, stacked notification interface for better readability.
