Following a limited three-day release in South Korea, Samsung has officially expanded the stable One UI 8.5 update to the Galaxy S23 series across international markets.

Based on the newly launched Android 16 operating system, the major software overhaul is currently rolling out to Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra users in Europe and India. Broader availability, including in markets like Vietnam, is expected in the coming days.

Heavy on AI, Lighter for Beta Testers The update, which carries a firmware build ending in FZDP, weighs in at a hefty 4GB for standard users. However, beta participants will only need to download a roughly 300MB patch.

Under the hood, One UI 8.5 brings a deeply customizable Quick Panel, a redesigned Device Care hub, and significant AI enhancements. Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby, receives a major intelligence boost with improved natural language processing. Bixby now features a dedicated chat history log and integrates the Perplexity search engine for more robust online queries.

On the imaging front, the Galaxy AI-powered Photo Assist tool now supports continuous image generation and introduces three new portrait filters. Customization also gets a nod: the lock screen can automatically rearrange wallpaper layouts to prevent widget overlap, complemented by fresh clock fonts and fluid transition animations.

Rounding out the feature drop are new weather effects for the alarm screen, a timezone changer within the Clock app, Auto Hotspot, Storage Share, and new Smart View shortcuts. Notably absent, however, is direct data transfer support between Samsung's Quick Share and Apple's AirDrop—a feature many users had been heavily anticipating.

How to Update To check for the software, users can navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Samsung recommends ensuring the device has at least 30% battery life before initiating the installation process, which will automatically restart the phone upon completion.
