Samsung has announced a significant expansion of its new screen repair initiative for the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold lineups. The move is designed to slash repair costs for consumers while advancing the company’s environmental goals through component reuse.
Departing from the traditional industry practice of replacing the entire display assembly, this new method targets only the specific damaged components. While this precision approach offers substantial savings for the user, it is more labor-intensive, typically taking twice as long as a standard full-assembly replacement.
Samsung Electronics Service, the tech giant’s after-sales arm, recently extended this “Foldable Phone Display Unit Repair” service to additional locations, aiming for broader nationwide coverage in South Korea.
First introduced in 2024, the program has seen rapid adoption. According to Samsung, usage of the service has surged fivefold since its launch. The initiative is estimated to have saved consumers a total of 8 billion won (approximately $5.4 million) to date.
Following this latest expansion, the service is now available at 160 of Samsung’s 169 service centers across South Korea. The process requires specialized equipment and highly skilled technicians. Samsung is currently considered the only manufacturer offering this type of component-level repair for foldable displays.
A representative from Samsung Electronics Service stated that the company remains committed to enhancing the after-sales experience, focusing on practical services that benefit Galaxy users in their daily lives.
