Samsung has officially confirmed the integration of silicon-carbon battery technology in its latest generation of foldable smartphones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8.

Although absent from the commercial spec sheets, Samsung representatives confirmed the use of silicon-carbon batteries during recent press briefings. This technology is the missing puzzle piece that solves a long-standing engineering challenge: significantly increasing battery capacity without compromising on a slim, lightweight design.

This shift is most apparent in the brand's book-style foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 packs a 4,800 mAh battery, despite featuring a significantly more compact chassis than its predecessor, the Fold 7 (which housed a 4,400 mAh cell). Similarly, the premium Z Fold 8 Ultra hits the 5,000 mAh mark while achieving a record-breaking slim profile.

Addressing concerns that these capacities still trail behind some Chinese competitors, Samsung stated it isn't chasing raw numbers. The company's top priority remains striking a delicate balance between performance, battery lifespan, and user safety. Adopting this new technology through a cautious roadmap ensures device stability and prevents rapid battery degradation over long-term use.

Alongside the battery core upgrades, both the Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra support 45W wired fast charging and 20W wireless charging. The successful commercialization of silicon-carbon batteries promises to pave the way for exciting design breakthroughs in Samsung's future flagship lineups.
