Samsung seems to be laying the groundwork for its One UI 8.5 Beta program on 2023 foldable devices, as early test firmware has recently been spotted on the company's internal servers.
Specifically, One UI 8.5 builds for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 have surfaced carrying the version numbers F946NKSU6ZZD1 and F731NKSU6ZZD1. This discovery strongly suggests that Samsung is running preliminary tests before deciding whether to launch a public beta program.
However, the appearance of test firmware doesn't guarantee users will get their hands on the beta anytime soon. Samsung might choose to keep the testing strictly internal or limit the rollout to select markets.
If a public beta does happen, it will give users an early look at upcoming changes before the stable update rolls out globally. This phase is also a crucial window for Samsung to gather user feedback and iron out software bugs.
Built on Android 16, One UI 8.5 is expected to bring major changes to the interface and overall user experience. The upcoming version heavily focuses on UI optimization, performance boosts, and new features designed to make the devices smoother and more intuitive.
While Samsung hasn't officially announced its One UI 8.5 roadmap for these specific foldables, the server-side firmware is a clear sign that preparations are already well underway.
