A notable change is coming to the Android ecosystem. Qualcomm has just confirmed that Quick Share on Snapdragon-powered smartphones will soon work with AirDrop, opening up the possibility of sharing files directly between Android and iPhone.
Last week, Google upgraded Quick Share to be compatible with AirDrop on iPhones, but only rolled it out to the Pixel 10 series. Google said the feature will expand to more Android devices, but has not confirmed a specific list.
New information has appeared on the X, with Qualcomm saying that Android models using Snapdragon will support Quick Share with AirDrop in the near future when the feature is activated. This means that not only Pixel or Tensor chips will benefit, but high-end devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold 7 will likely get this feature as well.
What about Galaxy models using Exynos or MediaTek? There’s no official confirmation yet, but since the feature doesn’t require any special hardware, most modern Android devices should be on the list. However, users will still have to wait for an announcement from Google or Samsung.
AirDrop compatibility on the Pixel 10 was enabled via a Google Play System update. If Google follows the same approach, it’s likely that other devices will also receive it via a system update without a major software upgrade. There’s no official release date yet, so Galaxy users should keep an eye out for upcoming updates.
