Samsung is quietly testing HDR screenshots on Android 16, a feature that wasn't present in the first two betas of One UI 8.
The Galaxy S25 series is currently the first device to join the One UI 8 beta program based on Android 16. So far, users have received two beta updates, but the HDR screenshot feature has not appeared. However, thanks to a new internal update, the tech community has discovered that Samsung is preparing to add this feature.
The HDR screenshot feature will allow users to save HDR content with full vibrant lighting effects. The photos will be saved in PNG format with HDR gain maps, allowing them to appear brighter when viewed on HDR-enabled devices, and displayed in SDR format if not supported.
Leaker Ice Universe said that the One UI 8 ZYF7 update in the closed beta program has started supporting HDR screenshots. When testing on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, he took an HDR photo from social media and confirmed that the photo retained a clear HDR effect, instead of losing details as usual.
However, this feature is not yet available in the second public beta (code ZYF3), and it is still unclear whether it will appear in the next beta or only be officially released with the stable version of One UI 8. If all goes well, users may soon experience the HDR screenshot feature right when the new generation of foldable phones is launched next month.
