LONDON — Samsung’s latest Galaxy Unpacked event has officially wrapped up, unveiling the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8. But despite a wave of significant hardware upgrades, the newest generation of foldables has poured cold water on anyone hoping for the triumphant return of the S Pen.

Neither of this year’s large-screen foldable models will support a stylus. This isn’t a sudden pivot; Samsung intentionally stripped the S Pen digitizer out of its displays starting with the Fold 7, making a calculated decision to shave every possible millimeter off the device's thickness.

Sacrificing this internal hardware means that writing, drawing, or sketching on the main display is officially a thing of the past. Historically, while the foldable lineup never featured a dedicated built-in slot like the Galaxy S Ultra series, users could at least buy the S Pen separately and stash it in specialized bulky cases.

Even though that previous workaround was somewhat compromised—given the stylus never functioned on the cover screen—its complete disappearance leaves a glaring void for power users who rely on their phones for serious mobile productivity.

This trade-off highlights a clear and unyielding strategy from Samsung: ditch a niche productivity tool in exchange for the thinnest, lightest chassis possible. Ultimately, this decision dashes any lingering consumer hopes, all but confirming that the S Pen is completely off the roadmap for Samsung's future foldables.
