Samsung started rolling out the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy A06 nearly two weeks ago, marking the last major Android upgrade for the device. However, that’s only true if you’re using the Galaxy A06 4G version – the 5G variant has a completely different journey.
Like many other budget phones, the Galaxy A06 comes in 4G LTE and 5G versions, but the differences between them go beyond network speeds. The hardware, software, and update policies are all clearly separated, making them the “most different twins” in Samsung’s smartphone portfolio.
The Galaxy A06 (4G) launched in mid-2024, running Android 14 out of the box and guaranteed two OS updates. With One UI 8 bringing Android 16, that’s the last version of Android it’ll get.
In contrast, the Galaxy A06 5G was launched half a year later – in February 2025 – and came with Android 15 out of the box. This means that the device will be supported for up to four Android updates, meaning that Android 16 is not the final version, and the device can be upgraded to Android 19 in the next few years.
Not only is the software policy different, but the two versions also have significant differences in hardware and user experience. The 4G version uses the MediaTek Helio G85 chip (12nm), while the 5G version is equipped with the more powerful and energy-efficient Dimensity 6300 (6nm). The A06 5G's screen also excels with a 90Hz refresh rate, compared to 60Hz on the 4G model.
Notably, the Galaxy A06 5G is also IP54 dust and water-resistant, allowing the device to withstand light impacts or splashes of water, while the 4G version does not have a protection rating.
So if you’re using the Galaxy A06 4G, it might be time to consider upgrading to the Galaxy A07 or a newer 5G model for a more stable experience in the long run. As for Galaxy A06 5G users, you can rest easy knowing that your device still has three more major Android releases in its support roadmap – and performance and durability that are far superior to its 4G sibling.
