Samsung Tweaks Galaxy AI Terms, Hinting at Future “Paid” Features

When Samsung debuted Galaxy AI alongside the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024, the company pledged that the suite would remain free until the end of 2025. By last August, the tech giant appeared to go a step further, reassuring media outlets—and anxious users—that Galaxy AI features would remain complimentary indefinitely.

However, a recent update to Samsung’s terms of service suggests a subtle pivot in strategy. The previous text, which explicitly stated that "AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025," has been replaced. The new language now reads: "Basic Galaxy AI features provided by Samsung are free."

The inclusion of the word "basic" is the critical detail here. It implies that while Samsung will likely keep core, everyday Galaxy AI utilities free of charge, more advanced or resource-intensive capabilities could eventually be locked behind a paywall.

Although Samsung has yet to define the boundary between "basic" and "premium," this terminological shift signals that the company is leaving the door open for a tiered subscription model. This approach mirrors broader industry trends as tech giants seek to balance user experience with the skyrocketing operational costs of generative AI.

For now, Galaxy users can rest easy knowing that the service isn't moving to a fully paid model—at least not for core functions. Any future monetization will likely target only the most specialized, high-end AI tools.
