Samsung has officially rolled out its One UI 9 update based on Android 17, but there is a catch: the latest software is currently exclusive to the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8.

The immediate release of the stable One UI 9 alongside the new foldables caught many off guard. Notably, despite going through multiple beta testing phases, Galaxy S26 owners will have to patiently wait a little longer to get their hands on the final version.

The One UI 9 update brings significant upgrades, highlighted by an all-new AI control center. This hub acts essentially as a digital butler, providing full transparency on all background AI tasks. It is paired with a smart privacy alert system that instantly notifies users if an app secretly attempts to access unauthorized permissions.

Jumping ship from an iPhone to a Samsung device has also been dramatically simplified thanks to an improved Smart Switch. Users migrating from iOS 26.6 or later can now simply scan a QR code to wirelessly sync all their data without installing any third-party apps. Everything from passwords and passkeys to call logs and eSIM data transfers seamlessly.

Furthermore, Samsung has introduced a centralized warranty management hub. This allows users to easily track their warranty status, run diagnostic checks, or request technical support with just a few taps.

The newly minted foldables also enjoy some exclusive software perks. The "My FanCam" feature automatically tracks subjects for dynamic framing. Meanwhile, the Z Fold 8 Ultra gets real-time "Cine LUT" filters for cinematic color grading while recording, and the Z Flip 8’s cover screen now doubles as a direct AI interaction interface.

Samsung has not yet provided a concrete timeline for the wider rollout. Following the company’s usual pattern, the Galaxy S26 series is expected to be next in line for the stable release, before the update trickles down to older smartphones and tablets.
