After a troubled One UI 7 release, Samsung is back on track with One UI 8, with the update speed surprisingly fast this time. The Android 16-based update is not only stable, but also rolled out ahead of schedule, with the ability to complete the entire roadmap in October – a month earlier than originally expected.
The One UI 8 Beta testing program was launched in May, starting with the Galaxy S25 series, then expanding to many other Galaxy models. By mid-September, the official stable update was released, and the Galaxy S25 became the first model to run Android 16. Since then, Samsung's release speed has been rated by the technology community as "the most impressive ever."
If last year Samsung was seriously delayed with Android 15, now the company has "turned the tables" by becoming the first manufacturer (after Google) to release a stable Android 16 update. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were updated a month earlier than expected, opening the fast deployment phase of One UI 8.
Not only keeping on schedule with the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung also surprised by expanding the early update to a series of other devices, including the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Tab S10, and many mid-range models such as the Galaxy A53 or Galaxy M53 - which were scheduled for October and November. Notably, many low-cost models in the Galaxy M and F series also received the update after just a few weeks.
As of mid-October, most high-end, mid-range, and even low-cost Galaxy smartphones and tablets have been upgraded to One UI 8. At this rate, observers believe that Samsung can complete the entire roadmap before November, becoming the Android company with the fastest software update progress in 2025.
