While Samsung is busy deploying the stable One UI 8.5 update and gearing up for One UI 9 beta testing, the company hasn't forgotten its older flagships. The South Korean tech giant has officially rolled out the May security update for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra.
Currently, the new software is live in South Korea, carrying a firmware version that ends in GZE5. Users in other regions, including Vietnam, can expect the over-the-air (OTA) notification to hit their devices in the coming days.
This month’s patch is a crucial one, squashing over 30 different system vulnerabilities. Most notably, it addresses a severe zero-click flaw in the Android operating system. This exploit could allow hackers to remotely execute malicious code without the user ever needing to click a link. Google, who discovered the vulnerability, strongly advises users to update their devices immediately to stay protected.
To manually check for the update, users can navigate to Settings, tap on Software update, and select Download and install. Once downloaded, the phone will automatically restart to complete the process.
Looking ahead, the Galaxy S22 series is still slated to receive the One UI 8.5 interface in the near future. However, this marks the end of the road for major OS upgrades for the lineup. These devices will not be eligible for the Android 17-based One UI 9, which is expected to launch alongside Samsung's new foldables this summer.
