Just three months after its debut, Samsung has abruptly pulled the plug on the Galaxy Z TriFold. However, the tech giant hasn't abandoned its ambitious multi-fold vision. Fresh leaks suggest Samsung is already doubling down on a thinner, lighter successor featuring a completely overhauled hinge.

According to industry insider yeux1122, Samsung is currently developing two new hybrid devices in tandem. One is the direct successor to the short-lived Z TriFold, while the other introduces a novel slidable OLED display.

For the next-generation tri-fold, Samsung is reportedly putting the finishing touches on a redesigned hinge aimed at shedding weight while boosting durability during folding cycles. With core hardware testing nearly complete, the device could hit the market by mid-2027. Insiders predict it will be only marginally thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which currently measures a mere 8.9mm when folded.

Beyond the tri-fold, Samsung is pushing forward with a rollable device utilizing a 'Slidable Flex' panel developed by Samsung Display. Unlike the motorized prototypes previously showcased at CES and Mobile World Congress, this first commercial iteration will likely rely on a manual pull mechanism.

When fully extended, the slidable screen is expected to stretch to roughly 7 inches, housed in a chassis noticeably slimmer than earlier concept models.

If development stays on track, Samsung could unveil its first commercially available slidable smartphone by late 2027 or early 2028.
