After weeks of delays, Samsung has officially pushed out the One UI 8.5 Beta 4 update for the Galaxy S25 lineup. As expected, this latest beta iteration prioritizes bug squashing and system stability over flashy new features—likely saving the major changes for the stable release alongside the next-generation flagship.

The new update for the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra carries the firmware version ZZAL. It weighs in at approximately 1.5GB for the Ultra model, with similar file sizes for the standard and Plus variants depending on the region. The update also bumps the security patch level to February 5, 2026, shoring up defenses against the latest vulnerabilities.

According to the official changelog, Beta 4 addresses a laundry list of bugs within the Phone app. Key fixes include resolving an issue where tapping search history yielded no response, glitches when switching calls to Bluetooth headsets, and crashes when pasting phone numbers from call links. The AI Select feature has also been refined to ensure it closes properly after users finish copying content.

Another notable fix addresses a quirky bug where the lock screen clock would drift downward without user input. Beyond specific fixes, early testers are reporting a noticeably smoother experience, with more stable animations and a more fluid overall feel to the OS.

Interestingly, Bixby may also be receiving some under-the-hood adjustments in this build. Reports suggest Samsung is internally testing a version of its voice assistant integrated with Perplexity’s technology, aiming to boost its natural language processing and information retrieval capabilities.

For now, however, the update remains exclusive to a select group. The One UI 8.5 beta program is currently limited to Galaxy S25 owners in the US, UK, India, Germany, Poland, and South Korea. There are currently no signs that Samsung plans to expand the beta to other devices or markets.

Looking ahead, the stable version of One UI 8.5 is slated to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series later this month. Other eligible devices are expected to begin receiving the update shortly after the new flagships hit the shelves.
