Since the Galaxy Z Fold 3 up to the Z Fold 7, the South Korean company has stubbornly stuck to a 4,400 mAh battery capacity. While Samsung consistently refreshed its designs and upgraded cameras over the years, this five-year stagnation in power specs has been a major point of contention. This conservative approach inadvertently put Samsung at a disadvantage, especially as rivals continuously launched ultra-thin foldables boasting batteries that exceed the 5,000 mAh mark.

However, the latest leaks suggest the landscape is about to shift dramatically. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is projected to feature a 4,800 mAh battery, while the premium Z Fold 8 Ultra variant will be bumped up to 5,000 mAh. These respective increases of 9% and 13.6% represent a massive effort by Samsung's engineering team. Packing more battery capacity without adding thickness to an already complex foldable hardware structure is a daunting engineering challenge.

In the mobile world, on-paper specs are never the sole determining factor for a device's endurance. Despite its modest battery, the predecessor Z Fold 7 delivered excellent real-world battery life thanks to deep software optimization and power-efficient components. Nevertheless, losing the "numbers game" to competitors—or to Apple's rumored future foldable iPhone—has constantly put Samsung under pressure when marketing to new customers.

This new direction shows that Samsung is no longer forcing users to bet their daily experience purely on optimization algorithms. Combining a larger battery with Qualcomm’s powerhouse Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor will create a formidable, energy-efficient duo. This new hardware synergy should allow Samsung's next-gen foldables to confidently set a new benchmark for battery life in the premium segment.

For years, a subpar battery capacity was the primary reason buyers hesitated to invest in the Fold series, even if they loved the folding screen technology.
