Samsung has been aggressively refining its software design lately. It started with a major interface overhaul in One UI 7 (based on Android 15) and continued with One UI 8.5, which introduced refined visuals like the pill-shaped navigation bar and frosted glass elements. Now, fresh leaks suggest that One UI 9, running on Android 17, will double down on this aesthetic, bringing a heavy dose of transparency to Galaxy phones and tablets.

Ahead of Google’s first Android 17 Developer Beta, early design details have already surfaced. Sources indicate that Android 17 is testing blurred backgrounds and glass-like textures across various system components. This approach aims to create a sense of depth by allowing the wallpaper to peek through the UI layers. Notably, this look is described as distinct from the "Liquid Glass" style Apple introduced in its recent iOS and iPadOS updates.

These transparency effects are reportedly visible in key areas such as the Quick Panel, the volume slider (both collapsed and expanded views), the power menu, and the notification shade. Crucially, these elements are expected to retain support for Dynamic Color (known as Color Palette on Samsung devices), ensuring the interface automatically harmonizes with the user’s wallpaper.

Android 17 is also rumored to bring significant upgrades to screen recording. Users may soon be able to draw directly on the video feed, visualize screen touches, and toggle audio sources between the device, microphone, or both. During recording, a pill-shaped timer will appear in the status bar. Once finished, the system will offer immediate options to delete, edit, or share the clip.

Furthermore, Google appears to be working on a native, system-level App Lock. If this feature makes it to the final Android 17 release, it is highly likely Samsung will integrate it into One UI 9—finally addressing a long-standing request from the Galaxy community.

Looking at the timeline, the Android 17 Developer Beta 1 is projected to launch in the first quarter of 2026, with a stable release expected by mid-year. If these leaks hold true, One UI 9 is shaping up to be the next major visual evolution for the Galaxy ecosystem.
