While One UI 7 has yet to be fully updated to all eligible devices, Samsung has already started testing One UI 8 based on Android 16, and the first changes are starting to show up. One of the most notable new features is the ability to display call logs right on the home screen via the Phone app widget.

According to leaked information from leaker @GerwinvGiessen, the Phone app in One UI 8 will be supplemented with two types of widgets with sizes 2×2 and 4×2, allowing users to quickly check recent calls without opening the app. Currently, this widget only appears on the home screen and it is not clear whether Samsung will develop a similar display option for the lock screen.

It is known that One UI 8 is still in the alpha stage, which is a pre-beta version, so there will be many changes before the official release. Some users have been able to test it early by installing the leaked firmware, however, this is not the final version and will certainly be further optimized. It is likely that Samsung will add new widgets, expanding the interface customization capabilities that One UI 7 has done very well.

Also related to the software development roadmap, many sources believe that Samsung may skip One UI 8.1 to directly develop One UI 8.5. If that is the case, the Galaxy S26 is expected to launch with One UI 8.5 in early 2026, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 duo will be the first devices to come pre-installed with One UI 8 when they launch in the middle of this year.
