Beyond mere cosmetic tweaks, the One UI 8.5 update delivers notable enhancements to Samsung’s native Calendar and Reminder apps. While the core functionality remains familiar, the update introduces subtle yet high-impact features designed to streamline daily planning and task management.
Samsung Calendar: Smarter and cleaner One UI 8.5 brings five practical upgrades to the Samsung Calendar. The standout feature is the Countdown widget, which now supports AI-generated backgrounds derived from event titles. Although currently unstable in Beta 2, this feature is expected to be fully activated via a server-side update soon.
Additionally, the app now focuses on reducing clutter with an option to hide past calendars. Workflow efficiency is also improved, allowing users to mark reminders as complete directly within the Calendar interface without switching apps. Visuals get a boost with better support for multiple image attachments, offering a cleaner layout. Furthermore, natural language search has been refined for faster and more accurate event retrieval.

Reminder App: Proactive "Early Alerts" The Reminder app receives a singular but significant addition: "Early Alert." This feature shifts the focus from strictly on-time notifications to proactive planning. Users can now opt for notifications well in advance—choosing from presets like 1 day or 1 week prior, or setting a custom timeframe.
For instance, a bill payment reminder set for 8:00 AM on December 25th can now trigger a nudge on December 24th, or even earlier. This acts as a "pre-notification," giving users ample buffer time to prepare rather than scrambling at the last minute.
Availability These enhancements are currently exclusive to Galaxy S25 users participating in the One UI 8.5 Beta program. While some builds may function on One UI 8 devices, feature parity is not guaranteed. Samsung advises against installing unofficial APK files and recommends waiting for the stable One UI 8.5 release, slated for the first half of 2026.
