Samsung is preparing a series of new features for One UI 8.5, the interface version expected to launch with the Galaxy S26 series early next year. Among them, a special feature has just been discovered – automatic spam call filtering using AI – which promises to help Galaxy users better control unwanted calls, similar to the way Google Pixel is doing.
According to information discovered by Android Authority in the system code of One UI 8.5, Samsung is developing the “Automatic Call Screening” feature, which allows the phone to automatically answer and screen calls from unknown numbers. When a call comes in, the phone will answer the call for you, listen to the content from the caller and respond naturally thanks to the built-in AI. During that process, users can follow the entire conversation through a live transcript on the screen.
Unlike the existing Bixby Text Call feature – which requires users to manually activate – this new feature works completely automatically. Users can choose to filter all calls from unknown numbers, or only filter calls suspected of being spam, scams, or international. In some markets like Korea, Samsung may even offer different levels of filtering, from “low” (blocking only spam calls) to “high” (filtering all unsaved numbers).
It is currently unclear whether the automatic call filtering feature will be widely deployed or limited to certain languages and regions. However, with Samsung constantly enhancing the intelligent AI features in the Galaxy ecosystem, One UI 8.5 is expected to be an update that brings a more personalized, convenient, and secure experience than ever.
