Samsung is preparing to launch the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series, making these devices the first to experience the new software version. However, not all S25 models will be eligible, and the selection criteria may surprise many users.
For years, Samsung has consistently prioritised its flagship trio when opening the One UI Beta program. This trend is expected to continue with One UI 8.5. The Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra will be the three models eligible from the start when Samsung opens registration.
The Galaxy S25 FE, however, has virtually no chance of inclusion. Samsung has never included any Galaxy S FE model in its Beta program, and a minor update like One UI 8.5 is unlikely to change this long-standing practice.
The Galaxy S25 Edge faces similar challenges. The device was excluded from the One UI 8 Beta program, and its absence from version 8.5 comes as no surprise. Despite its premium pricing, the model hasn't performed as well as expected in the market, making Samsung hesitant to include it in testing phases.
Samsung continues to treat its top three models as top priority when releasing test versions. Therefore, Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra users should prepare to register when the program becomes available.
Galaxy S25 FE and S25 Edge users will need to wait for the stable release. Additionally, even with eligible devices, participation remains limited. Samsung is rolling out the One UI 8.5 Beta on a market-by-market basis, beginning with the US, UK, South Korea, and Germany. India and Poland will follow in the next phase.
