In recent years, the smartphone industry has largely moved away from emphasizing thinness—except in the Chinese market. However, 2025 marks a strong resurgence of this trend, with Samsung introducing the Galaxy Z TriFold, the first-ever triple-fold smartphone featuring an impressively slim design that captivates at first glance.
When folded, the Galaxy Z TriFold measures 12.9mm in thickness. While this may seem bulky compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is only 8.9mm thick, the key difference is that the TriFold folds twice, naturally resulting in a thicker structure. Once fully unfolded, the TriFold showcases its design mastery with a thickness of just 3.9mm at its thinnest point—matching or even surpassing the slimness of many premium tablets currently on the market.
Three edges, three thicknesses — all precise
The Galaxy Z TriFold does not have uniform thinness. Each of its three edges features a distinct thickness, all carefully measured and exact.
-
The left edge is the thinnest at 3.9mm.
-
The center section, where the outer display sits, is 4.2mm thick.
-
The right edge, housing the power button and camera module, measures 4.0mm (excluding the camera bump).

These figures do not include the protective screen film. Interestingly, the sum of these three measurements is 12.1mm—less than the 12.9mm thickness stated for the folded device. This discrepancy exists because Samsung incorporates a small technical gap between the screen panels when folded, which relieves pressure on the hinges and enhances long-term durability.
Another noteworthy point is that the Galaxy Z TriFold’s camera module is thicker than the main body when fully opened. Although Samsung has not disclosed the full thickness, including the camera, images clearly show the lens protruding significantly above the ultra-thin device frame. This protrusion isn’t related to camera quality—despite using a 200MP sensor, imaging isn’t the TriFold’s primary focus—but rather a consequence of the device’s exceptionally slim profile, which naturally makes the camera stand out as a prominent bump.
