Samsung has just released a fairly large software update for the Galaxy S24 series in Europe. The update is over 1GB in size, but what confuses users is the extremely vague changelog. This is not a beta of One UI 8, nor is it a new security patch, as the device is still stuck on the May 2025 patch.
According to the official notes, the update is intended to “improve device usability.” That sounds pretty generic and is far from the usual language of security updates, which would refer to enhanced device protection or patching system vulnerabilities. However, the new software version (S92*BXXU4BYE7) suggests that this may be more than just a patch.
However, the bootloader version remains the same, meaning there are no major changes at the boot system level. Previously, the first May update had the version number S92*BXXS4BYE3. Based on the large size of this update, it is likely that Samsung has quietly made some deeper optimizations or laid the groundwork for new features to come.
It is possible that Samsung is preparing for the appearance of One UI 8 Beta on the Galaxy S24 series. Currently, the One UI 8 testing program has only been deployed for the Galaxy S25 series in Germany, the UK, the US, and South Korea. Other models such as the Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6 may be added to the beta program in June or July.
Meanwhile, this strange update is expected to be expanded to many other markets outside of Europe soon. Samsung may also be planning to release the June security patch for the Galaxy S24, or bundle it with the One UI 8 beta update. We will continue to monitor and update this information. Users can check for new updates by going to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
