Despite having discontinued the Galaxy Note series years ago, Samsung hasn't abandoned the last of its Note devices. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra have recently received the July 2025 security patch, just weeks after the previous update with the same patch was released.

At the end of July, Samsung released the July 2025 security patch for the Galaxy Note 20 series globally, including the US market. Now, the company has continued to roll out a new update in South Korea, keeping the July patch instead of upgrading to the August 2025 patch.

This could be a sign that the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are about to end their software support journey. According to Samsung's policy, the duo will be updated until August 2025. Most likely, they only have a maximum of one more security patch before officially stopping receiving updates.

In South Korea, the update, which carries firmware version N981NKSS9HYG5 (Note 20) and N986NKSS9HYG5 (Note 20 Ultra), is expected to expand to other markets soon. Users can check manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

With the end of support approaching, it's a good time for Note 20 users to consider upgrading. If you want to experience the integrated S Pen, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the top choice, although some features like Air Actions and remote camera control via Bluetooth are no longer available.
