Recent rumors have suggested that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 with Android 16-based One UI 8 out of the box this summer. And now, we have the first solid evidence thanks to a benchmark result that appeared on Geekbench, confirming that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is running Android 16.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 appears on Geekbench with Android 16

Samsung is still in the process of rolling out One UI 7, an update that is nearly five months behind schedule. Android 15 was supposed to be released to users in November last year, but it was only released to some of the first devices in early April. This has led many to worry that the next software update roadmap, especially One UI 8, could be affected.

However, recent leaks suggest otherwise. While One UI 7 will be rolled out by June, Samsung could launch One UI 8 in July, coinciding with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. The new Geekbench results further reinforce this possibility.

Specifically, the US version of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (model code SM-F966U) has appeared on Geekbench, running Android 16. The device uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy” chip similar to the Galaxy S25, with a maximum clock speed of 4.47GHz, Adreno 830 GPU and 12GB RAM. The device scored 18,143 points in the OpenCL test of Geekbench 6.4.

Samsung may be preparing for a software comeback

While the benchmark listing doesn’t reveal much else about the Fold 7, it’s the clearest indication yet that the device will launch with One UI 8. That means the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will also ship with the new OS. Samsung is also likely to extend the Android 16 update to eligible devices before the end of 2025.

If Samsung does indeed roll out One UI 8 in Q3, it would be a huge step forward, especially after the underwhelming performance of One UI 7. Not only was the Android 15 update slow, it was also criticized for inconsistent interfaces and feature syncing across regions. Hopefully, One UI 8 will address those shortcomings. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
