After years of speculation, Apple is reportedly ready to unveil its next-generation MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display later this year. Recent reports indicate that Samsung Display will likely serve as the exclusive panel supplier for the revamped lineup.
According to the latest insiders, the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to deliver significant upgrades, headlined by the shift to Samsung-manufactured OLED screens and the debut of Apple’s next-gen M6 silicon.
However, the inclusion of touchscreen capabilities remains a point of contention. Some sources suggest that touch features might be exclusive to the high-end M6 Pro and M6 Max configurations, while the standard model may retain a traditional design.
Reports out of Korea suggest Samsung Display kicked off mass production of its 8th-generation OLED panels in May, marking the first large-scale global commercialization of this specific technology. The manufacturing run covers both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, aligning with current MacBook Pro form factors. With a target of shipping approximately 2 million units to Apple before year's end, the timeline hints at an imminent release.
For now, Samsung Display appears to be the sole provider for the new MacBook Pro's OLED screens. While Chinese manufacturer BOE is reportedly vying to enter the supply chain, it remains unclear whether they can meet Apple’s stringent quality standards for what promises to be the most significant MacBook Pro overhaul in years.
