In a major move bridging the mobile ecosystem divide, Samsung confirmed on March 23 that it will officially support Apple's AirDrop file sharing on its Galaxy devices via Quick Share. The integration paves the way for seamless, direct wireless data transfer between Galaxy smartphones and Apple devices like the iPhone.
According to the announcement, the flagship Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra will be the first devices to receive this feature through an upcoming software update. Samsung noted that AirDrop compatibility will continue to roll out to a broader range of Galaxy hardware in the near future.
However, the tech giant has kept details under wraps regarding a specific list of legacy devices slated for the upgrade or a firm deployment timeline. Industry observers anticipate that older Galaxy models will gain support alongside the stable release of the upcoming One UI 8.5 update.
Samsung's decision follows in the footsteps of Google, which pioneered AirDrop compatibility on Android with the Pixel 10 series before expanding it to the Pixel 9. With this latest development, Samsung becomes the second major Android manufacturer to offer native AirDrop support, significantly reducing the friction of cross-platform data sharing.
Beyond smartphones, the feature is highly anticipated to reach Galaxy tablets as well, enabling direct file transfers with iPads and Mac computers. This move promises to further expand connectivity and blur the lines between the Samsung and Apple ecosystems.
