One UI 7 is currently rolling out to a number of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Once that process is complete, the company will move on to One UI 8, the next major update based on Android 16.
As usual, Samsung will open a beta testing program for certain devices in specific markets, allowing users to experience new features and improvements early before the official release. The One UI 8 beta program could start as early as May, but which devices will be included remains an open question.
As of May 20, Samsung has yet to release any official information regarding the One UI 8 beta program, including a list of eligible devices. This means that all current speculation is based on leaks and test firmware.
According to current information, the Galaxy S25 will be the first product line to participate in the One UI 8 test. Samsung has been developing One UI 8 for a long time, and some test firmware versions have appeared on models such as the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and Z Flip 5. However, at the moment, only the Galaxy S25 series has a beta firmware, so it is likely that the program will only apply to the S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, and possibly the S25 Edge.
Based on the precedent with One UI 7, the initial beta program will likely be limited to the latest flagships. Therefore, users of older devices should keep their expectations reasonable until Samsung announces more information.
Fortunately, One UI 8 is not a very big update in terms of features. According to Google, the official update is expected to be released in September or October this year. If so, the beta testing period will likely be shorter than in previous years.
Will your Galaxy device get the One UI 8 update? Stay tuned for a comprehensive list of eligible models that we’ll update as soon as we hear from Samsung.
