Samsung is preparing to deliver a meaningful experience upgrade with One UI 8.5. If you’ve ever been frustrated by your phone constantly buzzing with promotional notifications from intrusive apps, this update is designed to put an end to that. One UI 8.5 will automatically place apps that send excessive ads into a “Deep Sleep” state, preventing them from continuing to interrupt you.

This new feature focuses specifically on apps that overuse push notifications for advertisements. It won’t affect in-app ads, which often require payment to remove, but it will take care of persistent notification spam automatically.

Samsung is reportedly developing a two-layer detection and control system for managing ad-abusive apps. At the basic level, it references a list of apps known for repeatedly sending promotional alerts. Once detected, One UI 8.5 will block their ad notifications and put the apps into Deep Sleep mode to stop further annoyance.

Meanwhile, the Intelligent Blocking mechanism will analyze notifications directly on the device. If the system identifies messages with advertising content appearing too frequently, it will automatically silence them. Samsung notes that this detection may not always be perfect, but it should significantly reduce the amount of spam users face daily.

Importantly, flagged apps aren’t deleted. They are moved to a dedicated section under Settings > Device care > Care report > Excessive alerts, where users can review which apps have been put to Deep Sleep for sending too many ads and adjust them if needed.

Many users are hoping Samsung will add an option to create an exception list, allowing important apps to continue sending notifications even if they post frequently. Disabling the entire feature wouldn’t be ideal, so an exception list would offer a balanced solution.

One UI 8.5 is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 in early 2026, when we’ll learn more about how Samsung fine-tunes this valuable feature before its broader rollout.
