In a surprising move, Samsung has rolled out One UI 8.5 Beta 5 for the Galaxy S25 series, just as the testing phase was widely believed to be wrapping up. The latest beta is currently hitting registered users in India, South Korea, and select other markets, marking the fifth testing milestone for the current flagship lineup.
Carrying the firmware version ZZAN, the update is relatively lightweight. Clocking in at just over 550MB for the Ultra model, it's significantly smaller than its predecessors. The changelog is equally brief, singling out an update to Bixby without detailing any new features or specific bug fixes.

The standout addition, however, is Bixby's new integration with Perplexity's AI technology. This upgrade empowers the virtual assistant to answer complex queries directly, rather than merely kicking users out to a web browser as it did in the past. While rumors of a Samsung-Perplexity partnership have circulated for some time, this beta offers the first tangible look at their collaboration in action.
Looking ahead, One UI 8.5 is expected to ship out of the box with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. The revamped, Perplexity-powered Bixby is poised to become a cornerstone of Samsung's broader artificial intelligence strategy. Some industry insiders even suggest the standalone Perplexity app could come pre-installed on future flagship devices.
Beyond Perplexity, Samsung continues to broaden its AI ecosystem through various strategic partnerships. Google’s Gemini is already deeply woven into several system applications, and AI platforms from Nota AI could soon join the fray.
In addition to the Bixby overhaul, Beta 5 likely packs under-the-hood system optimizations and minor bug fixes as Samsung paves the way for a stable release. For now, the beta program remains exclusive to the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra across India, South Korea, the US, the UK, Poland, and Germany.
