In a surprising move, Samsung’s latest smartwatches have become the first devices in its ecosystem to receive the July 2026 security patch, bypassing the company's premium smartphones.

Typically, the South Korean tech giant spends the first half of every month rolling out software updates to its phones and tablets before moving on to wearables. However, the July 2026 rollout has completely flipped this established script.

While Samsung has not yet detailed the specific system vulnerabilities being addressed, it has quietly initiated the update process for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 7. The rollout began in South Korea, with Bluetooth-only models taking priority over their eSIM (LTE) counterparts.

System records reveal that the update package for the Galaxy Watch 8 (firmware version L330XXS2AZF4) weighs in at 170.04 MB. Meanwhile, the Watch 7 file (firmware L310XXS2BZF4) is slightly lighter at 165.28 MB.

Though the exact contents of the patch remain under wraps, Samsung's routine security updates generally target a range of moderate to critical operating system vulnerabilities. This ensures stable device performance and mitigates potential cybersecurity threats.

To check for and download the July 2026 patch, users can simply open the Galaxy Wearable app on their connected smartphone, navigate to Watch settings, select Software update, and proceed with the installation.
