Samsung is likely to continue playing a pivotal role in Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup. According to a new report from South Korea, Samsung Display could emerge as the exclusive OLED panel supplier for the iPhone 18 series, slated for a 2027 release to mark the device's 20th anniversary.

If accurate, this would mark the first time since the iPhone X that Apple has sourced its OLED displays from a single partner. While Samsung enjoyed exclusivity for the iPhone X, Apple subsequently diversified its supply chain by bringing LG Display and BOE into the fold to reduce dependency.

Sources cited by The Korea Herald indicate that Apple is considering entrusting its entire iPhone 18 OLED order to Samsung. This move suggests that the South Korean tech giant maintains a formidable technological edge over its industry rivals.

Notably, industry insiders recently revealed that Apple has tasked Samsung with developing a novel, polarizer-free OLED panel featuring a quad-curved design. This innovation is expected to pave the way for future iPhones to boast thinner profiles, superior outdoor visibility, and enhanced power efficiency.

To eliminate the traditional polarizing layer, Samsung will reportedly utilize its Color Filter on Encapsulation (COE) technology—a solution the company has been refining for years. COE not only trims the thickness of the OLED panel but also boosts overall display performance and peak brightness.

However, industry experts caution that this cutting-edge OLED technology may not yet be ready for mass production. Whether it can be successfully commercialized in time for the iPhone 18's launch remains a significant question mark.

Nevertheless, securing the entirety of the iPhone 18 OLED orders would represent a monumental milestone for Samsung Display. In an increasingly competitive premium display market, cementing its status as Apple's strategic partner would ensure Samsung retains its dominance in the mobile OLED sector.
