Samsung is accelerating the development of its next major software evolution, One UI 8.5. Following recent internal tests on newer hardware, the update has now officially surfaced for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. This move signals that the 2023 foldable lineup remains a priority in Samsung’s long-term update roadmap.

According to findings shared by noted tipster Tarun Vats, the test builds have appeared on Samsung’s servers across multiple regions, including India, Europe, and Turkey. Broader market availability is expected to follow soon. Specifically, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 was spotted running firmware version F946BXXU5GYLB, while the Flip 5 appeared with version F731BXXU5GYLB. It is important to note that these are internal builds and are not yet available for public download.

While testing is underway, a public release is not imminent. Industry sources suggest that the stable rollout could begin around mid-May, though Samsung has yet to confirm an official timeline, and release schedules are always subject to change.

Significantly, One UI 8.5 will not be the final major update for these devices. Launching originally with Android 13, both the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 are eligible for OS upgrades through Android 17. That version, expected late next year, will likely serve as the final major Android overhaul for the duo.

Samsung’s testing scope is reportedly wide, with One UI 8.5 builds also underway for other foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, as well as the Fold 6 and Flip 6. The older Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 are also expected to join the test servers in the near future.

Overall, One UI 8.5 is shaping up to be a substantial upgrade. Built on Android 16 QPR2, the update promises a refreshed interface, deeper customization options, new features, and system-wide blur effect improvements. It represents a more distinct leap forward compared to One UI 8. The software is rumored to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series early next year before a wider rollout to the Galaxy ecosystem.
