The Galaxy S22 series is entering the final chapter of its software support lifecycle. As the devices turn four years old this month, Samsung has officially transitioned the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra to a quarterly security update schedule, ending the era of monthly patches.

This shift signals that the 2022 flagships have moved past the phase of receiving major operating system upgrades. On paper, the lineup has only a handful of security patches and likely one final One UI update remaining—without a change to the Android version—before support concludes entirely.

Since the S22 devices have already received the January 2026 security patch, the next update is expected to arrive in roughly three months under the new cycle.

Originally launched in February 2022 with Android 12, the flagship trio has fulfilled Samsung's original commitment of four major Android upgrades. Currently running on One UI 8.0, the roadmap suggests the devices may still receive One UI 8.5 later this year, which will likely serve as the final interface update for this generation.

For users still holding onto the Galaxy S22, the device remains capable of handling daily tasks for another year. However, Samsung is expected to cease all updates for the series starting in 2027.

On the flip side, this marks an opportune time to consider an upgrade, especially as trade-in values tend to depreciate over time. Samsung’s latest flagships now promise seven generations of Android upgrades and seven years of security updates, alongside more powerful hardware and new Galaxy AI features.

Meanwhile, with the Galaxy S26 series expected to be unveiled shortly, it presents a compelling upgrade path for users looking to make the jump to the next generation.
