Installing apps on most Android phones today is often quite slow, especially on mid-range and low-cost devices. With flagship models like the Galaxy S25, this experience may not be noticeable, but for ordinary users, it is a clear limitation. However, this is about to change thanks to Android 16, the platform version that Samsung will use for One UI 8.0.
According to Android Authority, one of the most valuable improvements of Android 16 is the “cloud compilation” feature. Instead of having the device process and create the necessary files after downloading the app, Android 16 will allow the device to download these files directly from the Google Play Store. Thanks to that, the installation process becomes lighter and faster, especially useful for low-configuration devices or heavy applications.
Normally, when users install an app, Android uses a tool called dex2oat to process the APK file, consuming the device's CPU resources. These processed files help the app run smoother later on. However, with Android 16, the device can skip that processing step by downloading SDM (Secure Dex Metadata) format files directly from the Play Store. This is the reason why One UI 8.0, built on Android 16, can bring significantly faster app installation speeds.
According to many sources, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 will be the first devices to come pre-installed with One UI 8.0. That also means users will soon experience faster app installation right from the newly launched devices. Although this feature is aimed at optimizing performance for low-end and mid-range devices, users of flagship lines like the Galaxy S25 will still notice a noticeable improvement in the overall experience.
