In a major win for cross-platform ecosystem sharing, Google has officially added Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge and Z Fold Special Edition to its growing list of Android devices capable of direct data transfers to iOS via Apple's AirDrop.

Originally debuting on the Pixel 10 lineup, this seamless cross-platform feature essentially bridges the gap between Android's Quick Share and Apple's AirDrop. Users can now beam high-quality photos, videos, and files directly between the two rival operating systems in seconds—no third-party apps required.

To take advantage of the feature, both the Galaxy S25 Edge and Z Fold Special Edition must be running the One UI 8.5 update. In reality, many users of these specific models had already noticed the ability to send files to iPhones prior to this announcement, making Google's latest catalog update more of an official, wide-scale service confirmation.

While the process eliminates the need for middleman software, there is a minor catch: first-time users on both Android and Apple devices will need to tweak a few security and sharing settings to ensure their systems can securely recognize each other.

As of June 2026, the official list of Samsung devices confirmed to support direct AirDrop data transfers includes:

  • Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra

  • Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra

  • Galaxy S25 Edge (Newly added)

  • Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra

  • Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7

  • Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6

  • Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (Newly added)

  • Galaxy Z TriFold

While newer models and select devices from Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, and Honor continue to join the compatibility list during these rollout phases, older Samsung models—such as the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5—have yet to make the cut. However, Google notes that it is actively working with hardware manufacturers to bring this highly requested feature to older and lower-tier devices in the near future.
