The Galaxy A17 – Samsung’s new mid-range smartphone – is gradually emerging with surprising information. Although it has not been officially launched, recent leaks suggest that this device could be one of the first phones in the Galaxy A series to come pre-installed with One UI 8 right out of the box.
According to GSMArena, some retailers in Europe have suddenly listed the Galaxy A17 on their websites, although Samsung has not yet announced any official information. Notably, the device may be sold with a charger, something that is gradually becoming rare in the popular segment. However, it is unclear whether this policy is applied globally or is limited to some markets.
More notable information comes from software update tracking expert Akhilesh Kumar. He discovered that a test firmware version with code A176BXXU1BYGA – a version of One UI 8 – is appearing on Samsung’s server for the Galaxy A17. This is contrary to many previous predictions that the device would run One UI 7.
If the Galaxy A17 does indeed come pre-installed with One UI 8 out of the box, this would be a surprising but reasonable move. Since One UI 8 has been officially launched, bringing the latest software version to mid-range devices will help improve the user experience and shorten the gap between segments. However, what is interesting is that if the Galaxy A17 runs One UI 8 out of the box, it is likely that the high-end Galaxy S25 series will also be updated to this version right before or at the same time.
Not only will the software be upgraded, but the Galaxy A17 is also on the list of devices that Samsung has committed to supporting six major updates, which is almost equivalent to the Galaxy S25 series, which has been supported for up to seven years of updates. With retailers already starting to put the Galaxy A17 on virtual shelves, it is likely that Samsung will soon make an official announcement. This will be one of the most notable models in the popular segment this year.
