Android 16 is coming while One UI 7.0 is still delayed

As Galaxy users are still waiting for the stable update of One UI 7.0 based on Android 15, Google is getting closer to the launch of Android 16. Given Google's rapid release rate, it wouldn't be surprising if Android 16 reaches Pixel users before all eligible Galaxy devices have finished receiving Android 15. Google has now rolled out Android 16 Beta 2.1 with a number of important bug fixes.

The new update is a minor upgrade to Android 16 Beta 2, which was released two weeks ago. Android 16 Beta 2.1 (BP22.250124.010) fixes a number of important issues, including:

  • Fixes an issue that prevented devices from entering Doze mode in some cases.
  • Fixes an issue that caused some animations to appear inconsistently when setting a live wallpaper.
  • Fixes an issue that caused devices to restart unexpectedly.
  • Improved stability, connectivity, and overall system performance.

To date, Google has released two major beta updates and one minor update for Android 16. The first public beta of Android 16 (Beta 1) was released on January 23, 2023, just a day after Samsung announced the Galaxy S25 series with One UI 7.0 out of the box.

If Google continues to accelerate the Android 16 release roadmap, this could mean that One UI 8.0 will also arrive earlier than expected. We could see the One UI 8.0 Beta program kick off earlier than One UI 7.0, which has been delayed multiple times. Currently, One UI 7.0 is still in its fourth beta phase, and many devices like the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Flip 7 have yet to receive the beta update.

Users can try out Android 16 Beta 2.1 right now if they own a Google Pixel 6 or later. However, as usual, Samsung devices are not included in the list of supported Android 16 beta testers.
